How to Apply

The 2025 Medal round is open for applications from 30/05/2025 – 01/08/2025.

We have introduced a new medal for the 2025 round - the Scientific Workers Medal. Named for the original moniker of the NZAS (The New Zealand Association of Scientific Workers) this new medal aims to recognise the technical brilliance that underpins scientific endeavour but is rarely eligible for an award. Please see the award page for more information.

All applications are to be submitted through an online form which can be accessed via the individual awards pages, or application guidelines.

Notes

  • Interested applicants may apply directly, however nominations by third-parties (with permission from the nominee) are also accepted.
  • Applications for Scientific Workers, Shorland and Cranwell medals may be made by individuals or scientific teams.
  • An applicant can only be considered for one NZAS medal each year, however they may additionally be a member of a team application.
  • Applications submitted have a three* year lifetime including the submission year (i.e. submission year and two subsequent years). It is recommended that applications are updated annually.
  • Upon expiry of an application’s validity a standdown period of three consecutive NZAS Medal rounds will apply before the individual or team can be the subject of a new application or nomination.

*The exceptions to this limit are applications submitted prior to 2022 which have a five year lifetime and Hill Tinsley applications which will no longer be considered once the nominated applicable period has passed (see guidelines).
